COURTHOUSE,
June 6 – A Bronx man
originally from Ghana was
charged with defrauding the
SBA out of $128,000. On
October 30 he appeared in U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrates court to plead
guilty. Inner City Press was
there.
He said he
has a nerve problem. The AUSA
recounted his false claim to
have been making $260,000 a
year prior to COVID.
The case
was continued in the interest
of justice numerous times,
then indicted.
His plea deal, to
count 2, is for six to 12
months.
With sentencing
set for June 6, Busia's
Federal Defender on May 8
wrote in asking for an
extension past May 9 to file
the sentencing memo, to May
23, to get and review the
pre-sentencing report.
On May 23, the
defense wrote in asking for
time served in sentencing set
for June 6.
Later, the US
Attorney's Office wrote in
asking for six months in
prison, and a year's
supervised release to include
eight months of home
confinement.
On June 6 he got
time served with eight months
home confinement - with
passport to be returned, and
$136,844.06 restitution to be
paid.
The case is
USA v. Busia, 1:24-cr-254
(Marrero)
