Dabney Sued To Keep Hughes Hubbard Email Address & Go Out as Sandy Koufax But Tears

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 15 –  James W. Dabney moved for a preliminary injunction to keep his Hughes Hubbard & Read e-mailed address while litigating about his pension.

The law firm, he says, tried to get him to drop the pension / ERISA and ADA claims in exchange for the status quo.

On May 15, 2023, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil held an evidentiary hearing.

Inner City Press went and covered it, thread here:

Judge saying defense submissions are untimely.

Dabney says he wanted to retire like Sandy Koufax, not like Willie Mays.

Judge: What does that mean?

Dabney quotes Jerry Seinfeld.

Hughes Hubbard's lawyer objects, asks to strike.

Judge: This is a bench hearing, no striking. But let's get out of the weeds.

Dabney wants to keep his Hughes Hubbard email address, and not be "stigmatized."

Note: Sandy Koufax never had these issues.

Dabney has broken down crying.

Judge says take a water break before cross examination by Proskauer, representing Hughes Hubbard. It's on:

Q: It's hard for lawyers, I know. It says HHR, of counsel, not vendor, correct?

Dabney: I felt that-

He is told, just answer.

The case is Dabney v. Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, 23-mc-00078 (Vyskocil
