After NYCHA Extortion Take Down De Los Santos Pled Out $35000 Now Gets 8 Months

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Oct 23 – For days Inner City Press had heard from its sources there would be a "takedown" on February 6, each SDNY Magistrate Judge would handle seven to 10 defendants.

Arrests happen at 6 am. So at 5:55 am Inner City Press tweeted it, first to X subscribers with the spoiler alert: the expectation was that each of the current or former NYCHA employees would be released on bond the same day.

And then hours later at 9:39 am the prosecutors announced it. Media rushed around reporting it.  Inner City Press had it first, and after discretely waiting, published it first. Then this thread of presentments, here.

On March 15, another guilty plea, by Tara Lucas for taking at least $19,000 in bribes for no-bid contracts worth $77,000.

On March 19, another guilty plea, by Victor De Los Santos, for taking $35,000 in bribes for no-bid contracts worth $280,000.

On October 2, the US Attorney's Office wrote in asking for 18 months on October 23.

On October 23, Inner City Press went - thread:

Judge analogizes to Joacim Mendez [24-cr-308, Cote] 15 months

Judge: But the national average for this is nine months in prison. AUSA: Those may not have involved, as in NYCHA, a culture of corruption. Defense: I represent only 1 defendant. We request home detention. Judge: I'll take a break

All rise! Judge: This was corrosive. Four years of bribes, even after several contractors were arrested. But this defendant assisted at the site of the 9/11 event. He pled early. For general deterence, I sentence you to 8 months in prison.

The case is US v. De Los Santos, 24-cr-155 (Wood)
