SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 6 – Angel Montanez was
arrested with a gun and
processed through New York
State courts - until his case
was Federalized as felon in
possession.
On June 30,
2023, Montanez appeared
before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Sarah L.
Cave. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag Court.
The
Assistant US Attorney agreed
to release on $50,000 bond
with two co-signers including
his wife, who was in the
courtroom. His lawyer said he
has already signed up for a
psychologist appointment in
the state case; Judge Cave
said yes, pursue it.
He pled guilty
and sentencing was set for
September 13. On September 6,
his lawyer wrote in saying he
bought the gun, unknowingly,
along with the contents
of storage unit, and
later took it out to turn it
on himself. He is asking for
15 months, some of it at home.
The case is
US v. Montanez, 23-cr-306
(Broderick / Cave)
