Victim (parent) statement: My grandfather who lived to 114 told me, Watch out who you associate with. Like this defendant, I was injured, driving for Uber. But I didn't turn to crime. The pain for us is unimaginable.

Victim (parent) speaker: I stopped by the cemetery on my way here. I ask for justice. Defendant: I apologize. I was involved in drugs to support my family.  Judge: The death of the child looms large - but this is a criminal case, not a tort case.

Judge: I sentence the defendant to ten years in prison.

On October 24 co-defendent Parra Paredes wrote in asking for the mandatory minimum ten years; sentencing is sent for October 31.
