UN GATE,
Feb 17 – How corrupt is the
UN-world system under Antonio
Guterres, who bans the Press
which investigates? This
example is again from ITU,
International
Telecommunication Union, whose
whistleblowers have, like
others, reached out to banned
Inner City Press:
Dear Matthew
Russell Lee:
Doreen
Bogdan-Martin’s tenure at the
ITU exemplifies a troubling
misuse of authority within the
UN system. Leveraging her
influential position,
Bogdan-Martin reportedly
attempted to manipulate
ongoing investigations into
allegations of misconduct
against her. One glaring
example involves her inviting
WIPO’s Director General-whose
agency was tasked with
conducting an independent
investigation into her
conduct-to ITU’s Senior
Management Retreat and other
high-profile events.
Now this: While
the ITU is facing severe
financial deficits, with
missing external audit reports
for 2023 and 2024,
Bogdan-Martin and her inner
circle are living in excess,
enjoying luxurious lifestyles
at the expense of the global
taxpayer. Over the
holiday season, while billions
of people remain unconnected,
the ITU Secretary-General
boasted about her extravagant
powder skiing retreat in
Megeve, an exclusive ski
resort filled with
Michelin-star restaurants and
elite accommodations.
There are
growing suspicions that ITU
vehicles and staff resources
were misused for personal
family vacations, a blatant
violation of UN policies that
could result in termination
for officials in other UN
agencies or European
governments.
More coming.
After repeated
refusal to respond by
spokespeople including
Stephane Dujarric and Melissa
Fleming, here was the first
complaint on Inner City Press'
DocumentCloud here.
