EDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 27 – In the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on the morning of December 29, a pre-trial conference was held by Judge Pamela K. Chen in the case of Kaiam Donovan. It was held with a public call-in line; Inner City Press called in.

Donovan is charged with one count of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base and one count of distributing and possessing with to distribute cocaine base, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846.

His trial was to start on January 3 - but Judge Chen said that will not be possible, given COVID / Omicron among the lawyers and investigators on the case. They asked whether EDNY's quarantine guidance is five days; an alternate date of February 9 was set.

[In SDNY, Inner City Press has learned the the trial that was set for jury selection on Monday, January 3 has been canceled due to COVID but that the January 4 trial, before Judge Denise L. Cote, is still set to go. But see Inner City Press docket-diving coverage, here].

The EDNY case is US v. Donovan, 20-cr-374, EDNY (Chen).
