Smith After Crack Conviction Has Supervision Ended Early By 2d Circuit Judge Sullivan

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 25 – Mark Anthony Smith was sentenced to five years in prison for selling crack in 2010, by then U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York District Judge Richard J. Sullivan.

On August 25 Judge Sullivan, now on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, held a proceeding to consider ending Smith's supervised release. Inner City Press covered it.

In a rare entirely positive proceeding, all participants agreed that Smith's supervision should be ended, that he deserved it.

Judge Sullivan agreed, then told Smith to be sure if and when COVID passes to come in and see him so he can shake his hand. But by then Smith was off the line.

The case is US v. Smith, 09-cr-1231 (Sullivan)
