On Rikers Guards Let McDaniel Be Beaten For Phone Minutes So From Fishkill He Sues

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 2 – According to inmate Curtis O. McDaniel when he was on Rikers Island in March 2019 he was attacked by another inmate named Nathaniel, in front of Corrections Officers, and beat in order to take his telephone minutes.

He bit his tongue and in the process of being moved out of the unit lost many of his belongings. He sued.

On June 2 U.S. District for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger held a conference in the case. He deemed what McDaniel called a Statement of Claim to be, in fact, an amended complaint.

From Fishkill, McDeniel has it seems filed request for subpoenas.

The case is  McDaniel v. Department of Correction et al., 19-cv-08735 (Nathan / Lehrburger).
