Defendant Who Killed Bronx Livery Driver Gets 42 Months Released From GEO To Halfway House

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 30 – Haswani Tyson was part of a robbery of a livery cab driver in 2015 that resulted in the driver's death.

On July 30 he was up for sentencing before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Valerie E. Caproni. Inner City Press covered it - as least the portion which was not sealed.

Tyson after arrest sought to become a formal cooperator. But as his lawyer said in open court on July 30, the homocide he offered evidence about "had no Federal nexus."

So he has been in the GEO cooperators' private prison in Queens, where according to his lawyer the inmates even before COVID-19 were not allowed out when temperatures are below 55 degrees.

Judge Caproni gave weight to the attempt to cooperate.

She sentenced Tyson to three and a half years with the last six months - beginning now, it seems, to be in a halfway house.

That's when they went off the record.

The case is US v. Tyson, 15-cr-537 (Caproni)
