After Haiti President Moises Was Killed, US Names Foote, UN Impunity for Cholera & Rape

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 22 – In Haiti, hold-over president Jovenel Moises was assassinated. The Dominican Republic ordered its border with the country closed, and mercenaries have been arrested.

In the United Nations, which ran a large "peacekeeping" mission in Haiti which beyond failing brought in cholera and killed 10,000 Haitians, while refusing to compensate any of the impoverished families who lost their bread-winners, there have been belated statements of concern.

There has been a "private" meeting of the UN Security Council, whose trip to Haiti Inner City Press covered, here, and here, before being banned from the UN and its briefings by Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

And on July 22 from the US, this: "The Department of State is pleased to announce that Ambassador Daniel Foote, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, will serve as its Special Envoy for Haiti.   Special Envoy Foote brings extensive diplomatic experience to this role – including as Deputy Chief of Mission in Haiti and as the U.S. Ambassador to Zambia. The Special Envoy will engage with Haitian and international partners."

Partners like the UN which killed 10,000 Haitian with cholera and then cited legal impunity, as it does to ban the Press asking questions?

Guterres' spokespeople Stephane Dujarric and Farhan Haq have refused to answer Inner City Press' written questions about new cases of UN sexual abuse in Haiti, here.
