FOLEY
SQUARE,
Nov 27 – Criminal court
decisions in New York as in
many states are rarely
publicly reported, despite
stated concerns about
disparities.
Inner City
Press day to day pushing for
court transparency in the
Federal courts, from SDNY to
the Western District of
Washington - but in New York
State itself, it is even
worse.
This
despite that under NY
"Judiciary Law § 432, every
judge or justice of a court of
record must promptly deliver
to the State Reporter a copy
of every written opinion
rendered."
In fact,
less than six percent are.
This has given rise to a
needed report,
and proposed
legislation.
It is said
that Rowan D. Wilson has
pledged to increase
transparency and trust in the
court system under his
administration.
Inner City Press, which covers
100 and 60 Centre Street as
well as the nearby Federal
courts, is on the case. Watch
