Man Jailed on Interpol Red Notice for Murder Said Victim Is Alive In Yonkers Now Pleads

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 3 – A man from the Dominican Republic charged with reentering the US illegally was detained in December 2023 due to an Interpol red notice issued in Santo Domingo, that he was charged with a murder there.

On January 8, 2024 Miguel Arcenio Plaza Antigua was arraigned before new U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the SDNY Mag Court.  He pled not guilty.

The US Attorney Office has said it will finish producing discovery by January 19.

The assigned District Judge Lorna G. Schofield scheduled a conference for April 8 at 10:30 am.

On February 23 Plaza Antigua's Federal Defender asked for a bond hearing, and Judge Schofield referred it to the Magistrates Court where it was heard on March 1. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the SDNY Mag Court. Federal Defenders say that the victim in the Interpol Red Notice - which they file under seal - is "alive and well and lives in Yonkers." Plaza Antigua was ordered freed on $100,000 bond.

Jump cut to May 3, 2024, a guilty plea: "Minute Entry for proceedings held before Magistrate Judge Barbara C. Moses: Change of Plea Hearing as to Miguel Arcenio Plaza Antigua held on 5/3/2024. Defendant present with counsel Andres M. Aranda. A.U.S.A. Connie Dang present for the Government. Spanish interpreter present. Defendant withdraws plea of not guilty and enters a plea of guilty to Count One of the Indictment. Magistrate Judge Moses recommends that District Judge Schofield accept the plea. PSI ordered. Detention continued. Control date: July 2, 2024."

The case is US v. Plaza Antigua, 23-cr-677 (Schofield / Willis)
