SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
April 12 – Ronell Sweat was
indicted and then detained in
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrates Court on April 12.
Inner City Press was there,
the only media in the SDNY Mag
Court.
The
indictment is short, only
charging that the defendant
had two GFL .380 auto cartidge
cases and was "previously
convicted in a court of a
crime punishable by
imprisonment for a term
exceeding one year."
But Magistrate
Judge Sarah Netburn was told
by the AUSA that the previous
felony was murder, and that
there was a punching of a bus
driver in 2018.
The AUSA added
that the defendant has been
"couch surfing;" the Federal
Defender disputed that, and
asked for release on bond.
Judge
Netburn said Sweat did not
appear to be "prepared to lead
a lawful life" at this point,
and ordered him
detained.
The case is
US v. Sweat, 24-cr-195
(Gardephe / Netburn)
