SDNY
COURTHOUSE, May
1 – Mohsen Shojaeinia was
arrested in March 2023, for
importing meth and heroin into
the US from Turkey and the UK.
He was extradited in and was
appointed publicly-funded
counsel, then hired his own
lawyer.
On May 1,
2024 he was scheduled to plead
guilty before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Paul G. Gardephe. Instead, the
retained lawyer was relieved,
and an appointment of counsel
scheduled in the SDNY
Magistrates Court. Inner City
Press was there.
SDNY
Magistrate Judge Barbara C.
Moses asked Shojaeinia if he
had been detained one year
already. Yes (vale), he said,
and one year before that
awaiting extradition.
Unfortunately. Even in leg
irons, he was surprisingly
chipper.
New counsel
was appointed for a May 22
rescheduled guilty plea.
The case is US v.
Shojaeinia, 22-cr-379
(Gardephe / Moses)
