SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 2 – Four
co-defendants were charged in
a Bronx heroin and fentanyl
conspiracy in a complaint in
April 2022.
On April
12, 2023 U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge John P. Cronan
held a proceeding in the case
- now with three defendants.
Inner City Press was there.
All
three defendants, one with a
fellow attorney standing in,
seem to be headed toward a
"disposition" or guilty plea.
Nevertheless, a
trial date was set, working
around counsel's various EDNY
trials: February 26, 2024.
Speedy Trial Act time was
excluded until February 21,
2024.
One
of the remaining three
defendants is free on bond,
and was allowed to wait in the
second row of the gallery to
speak with his female
co-defendant, dressed in
orange.
On May 1, counsel
for co-defendant Philome
Duverne asked for a sentence
of sixty months, citing his
journey in 2016 from Brazil to
the US via Peru to Panama and
Central America to The Bronx.
The sentencing is set for May
15 at 2 pm.
On May 8, the US
Attorney's Office wrote in and
asked for 121 months on
Duverne.
The case
is US v. Cabral, et al.,
22-cr-366 (Cronan)
