SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 24 – Police
used pole
cameras to
video record
crack cocaine
purposes from
Anthony Smalls
and three
others in the
North Bronx
from April
2022 into
2023, a
Federal
complaint and
now indictment
allege.
On May 23,
2023, U.S.
District Court
for the
Southern
District of
New York Judge
Jennifer L.
Rochon held an
arraignment
and initial
pre-trial
conference
with the four
defendants and
their lawyers.
Inner City
Press went and
covered it,
the only media
(and only
civilian) in
the courtroom.
The Assistant
US Attorney
said of the
phones seized,
one has yet to
be cracked.
Other than
that,
discovery will
be produced by
July 20, when
Judge Rochon
set the next
conference.
Why
the controlled
buys continued
for so long
without any
arrest was not
explained.
The
four
defendants sat
in the jury
box, with US
Marshals
behind them.
Each pleaded
not guilty. At
the end one
called his
lawyer over;
she emerged
and answered
that there was
nothing
further needed
in the
proceeding.
On
January 24,
2024,
co-defendant
Codie Lewis
pled guilty,
with
sentencing set
for April 25
at 10 am.
On
February 9,
co-defendant
Shoria Moore
pled guilty,
with a
sentencing
date of May 9
at noon.
On
April 17,
co-defendent
Lewis asked
for time
served.
On
April 18, the
US Attorney's
Office wrote
in that 12 to
18 month
imprisonment
would be
sufficient.
The sentencing
is set for
April 25 at
12:15 pm.
On
April 24, the
US Attorney's
Office asked
for a 37 month
sentence when
Anthony Smalls
is sentenced,
set for May 1.
