SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 24 – Tyrome Brehon served
20 years on a murder rap. Then
on August 30, 2023 while still
on probation he consented to a
police search of his Bronx
apartment in which guns and
heroin were found.
On August
31, 2023, he appeared before
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Robert W.
Lehrburger. Inner City Press
was there, the only media in
the SDNY Mag court.
The US
sought detention. Brehon's
Federal Defender emphasized
that he had invited the police
into his residence.
Judge Lehrburger
said this might be trying to
curry favor with the police,
deceptively. He ordered
detention.
On December 20,
after the case was indicted
and assigned to Judge John P.
Cronan, Brehon was in court
re-applying for bail. Inner
City Press was there. His
Federal Defender emphasized he
had invited the police in.
Judge
Cronan noted that, saying it
seemed he might have wanted to
be arrested - there was
reference to him selling
heroin only in order to pay a
debt, and a text message to a
woman that he had a gun and
drug. The defense implied that
was puffery.
On June 24, after
a plea, Federal Defenders for
Brehon asked for a sentence of
30 months, with sentencing set
for July 8.
The case is US v.
Brehon, 23-cr-555 (Cronan)
