SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 15 – Bin Wang sued Fancy
Cuisine for not paying
overtime.
On July 7,
2022 U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Edgardo Ramos held
a proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Fantasy Cuisine
is a bakery in Hartsdale, New
York. The dispute arose during
the COVID-19 partial shut
down.
Judge Ramos said
he would enter a mediation
referral order.
It clearly didn't
work. On May 15, 2024 Inner
City Press went to cover the
trial, with the case now
reassigned to Judge Jennifer
L. Rochon. Wang was on the
witness stand, with an
interpreter. Defense counsel
questioned him about the mix
of checks and cash at
different points in 2020, and
a previous deposition.
Inner City Press
wondered, Did the business get
COVID loans from the
government to keep paying its
employees?
The case is Wang
v. Leo Chuliya, LTD et al.,
20-cv-10395
(Rochon)
