SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 27 –
Dane Norford
was sentenced
to 300 months
in prison for
crack dealing
in 2003, in
North
Carolina.
Then
on Supervised
Release on
April 14, 2023
in New York,
he is accused
of shooting a
gun at a car
containing a
co-worker.
On July 28,
2023 Norford
in detention
was presented
before U.S.
District for
the Southern
District of
New York
Magistrate
Judge Valerie
Figueredo and
asked for
release on
bail. Inner
City Press was
there, the
only media in
the SDNY Mag
Court.
The Federal
Defender
questioned if
there was any
video of the
incident. The
AUSA said it
made sense to
let the
now-assigned
Judge make the
decision.
Magistrate
Judge
Figueredo
agreed and
detained
Norford, the
last case of
the week.
On
August 2,
Norford's
Federal
Defender wrote
to Judge
Engelmayer
seeking
release on
bail, citing
to Norford's
state case
lawyer Gary J.
Lesser, Esq
and then
redacting a
sentence.
Norford
was released
on $50,000
unsecured
bond. On
November 27,
2023, the AUSA
wrote in that
his state
trial is
scheduled for
February 21,
2024 and asked
that the next
status update
be due after
February 28,
2024.
The
case is US v.
Norford,
23-cr-221
(Engelmayer)
