COURTHOUSE,
Dec 13 – Former NBA player
Matt Barnes is being sued for
assault by Jasmine Besiso, for
a nightclub incident in 2016.
The civil trial
began on December 11, 2023
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Ronnie Abrams and
Inner City Press was
there.
The jurors were
shown video testimony, from
the previous Thursday, of
nightclub security guard Ty
Lawon. While he repeated said
he didn't recall, he did
describe a choke hold that was
"not hugging." Then he said
again, I don't recall.
Judge
Abrams sent the jurors home at
4:30 pm.
On December 12,
Besiso was on the witness
stand, describing neck pain,
migraines and taking out a
$38,000 loan for surgery. She
said she now owes $120,000.
She looked straight at the
jurors.
On December 13 it
emerged that some more recent
medical treatment had not been
timely disclosed to the Matt
Barnes' lawyers. So they
objected, and the testimony
was precluded. A doctor from
New York Spine Specialist
testified that Besiso said she
was assaulted and strangled,
then about the spine.
The case is
Besiso et al v. Barnes, et
al., 19-cv-9461 (Abrams)
