Man Extradited for Sale of Cocaine from Colombia to NYC Now Pleads Guilty in SDNY

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 18 – Jorge Escarraga Medina offered to sell 1000 kilograms of cocaine from Colombia and Venezuela.

For this, he was arrested and extradited to New York.

On August 10, 2023, he appeared in a WCDOC orange jail jumpsuit before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Gabriel W. Gorenstein. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the SDNY Mag Court.

Because he was extradited, release on bond was unlikely to say the least. His Federal Defender consented to detention.

He was slated to appear before District Judge Jessica G. L. Clarke.

He did, again, on December 18 and Inner City Press was there. The AUSA said a plea offer had been made; the Federal Defender said it would likely be accepted. But, he said, MDC lock-downs had made entry impossible, and BOP has not treated Medina's hernia or sinus condition. A next conference was set for February 9, 2024 at 10 am.

On February 9, Medina pled guilty to Count 1, with sentencing set for May 9 at 2:30 pm.

The case is US v. Medina, 22-cr-413 (Clarke / Gorenstein)
