SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
March 18 – After working at a
building supply company on
White Plains Road in The
Bronx, Khalil Alawamri says he
did not get paid.
He sued -
and on March 18, it went to
trial before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Lewis J. Liman. Inner City
Press was there.
Defense
counsel for S.V.B. Corporation
and its owner Iftikhar J.
Ahmad said just being present
does no constitute work, and
that the myster of Alawamri's
apparently not dispute
presence at the business
constitutes a mystery that the
four day trial will
solve.
With the
jury out of the courtroom, the
two sides discussed a
stipulation, since on the
selected jury, no juror speaks
or reads Arabic and there will
evidence in that
language. The trial
continues.
The case is
Alawamri v. S.V.B. Corp., et
al., 22-cv-8966 (Liman)
