Awaiting Trial in Fentanyl by Mail Case Bonilla Dodged SDNY Remand Now Santiago Pleads

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 8 – Anthony Bonilla is charged with being part of a fenantyl by mail conspiracy.

On September 20, 2023 he was before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Paul A. Crotty on violations of the conditions of his pre-trial release. Inner City Press was there.

Discussed were ventures (slightly) outside his house, to a basketball court. Judge Crotty said he was young and admonished him to do better.

But no remand, he said, for now.

On May 8, 2024, with the overall case re-assigned to Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, co- (and lead-) defendant Jose Santiago pled guilty to Count 1, with sentencing set for September 17 at 10:30 am.

The case is US v. Santiago, et al., 23-cr-257 (Crotty)
