SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 16 – Jack Moussignac was
arrested for beating a US
Postal Service employee while
trying to steal his arrow key
midday on Davidson Avenue in
The Bronx.
On
October 25, 2023 he was before
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Katharine H.
Parker. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag Court.
Moussignac,
speaking for himself, noted
that he was part of the Rikers
Debate Project and had been in
a photograph in the Wall
Street Journal. He asked to be
released to resolve the state
charges from the postal
beat-down.
It
was unclear if, even if
released by SDNY, he would
simply be taken to Rikers. So
he was detained but Judge
Parker retains the case in the
event of a future bail
application "prior to any
assignment to a District
Judge."
The case was
assigned to District Judge
John G. Koeltl before whom on
January 16, 2024 Moussignac
pleaded guilty to Assaulting
an Employee of the US, with
sentencing set for April 24 at
2:30 pm.
On April 10,
Moussignac's Federal Defender
wrote in asking for a sentence
of a year and a day (which
would allow "good time"
credit).
On April 16, the
US Attorney's Office wrote in
requesting a sentence within
the 70 to 87 month Guideline.
