Man Who Phoned Threats to FBI in 26 Federal Plaza Is Released for Mental Health in SDNY

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 22 – Brandon Chin is charged with phoning in threats to the FBI at 26 Federal Plaza, including saying he was nearby and had a gun.

On January 22, 2024 he was presented before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Chief Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn. Inner City Press was there.    The Assistant US Attorney said Chin should be detained, as a danger.

But his Federal Defender said that he had gone off his medication due to not having insurance, and that now he has it.

Judge Netburn ordered him released, saying he should go to Metropolitan Hospital.

The case is US v. Chin, 24-mj-261 (Netburn)
