SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Aug 9 – Soon after a DOJ
indictee was pardoned and
released from the EDNY and MDC
to Russia, on August 9 DOJ
announced that
ARTHUR PETROV, a
dual Russian and German
national, was extradited from
the Republic of Cyprus after
having been charged with
export control violations,
smuggling, wire fraud, and
money laundering offenses in
connection with his alleged
participation in a scheme to
procure U.S.-sourced
microelectronics subject to
U.S. export controls on behalf
of a Russia-based supplier of
critical electronics
components for manufacturers
supplying weaponry and other
equipment to the Russian
military.
Inner City
Press was the only media at
Petrov's presentment before
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Jennifer E.
Willis. Thread:
now at
presentment of Arthur Petrov.
He's brought in wearing bright
white sweatshirt, gets Russian
language interpreter and
Federal Defender.
AUSA Kevin
Sullivan: We notified Russian
authorities by email. It's
mandatory. Judge: You are
charged with 11 counts. AUSA:
We seek detention. Federal
Defender: We consent without
prejudice.
AUSA: Does the
defendant want us to notify
German authorities? And does
he need a medical order?
Federal Defender:
The answer is no to both.
Judge: We are adjourned.
[Inner City Press
question: could Arthur Petrov
ultimately be another
"trade"?]
The case is US v.
Petrov, 23-mj-6023 (Willis)
