Man Charged With Odometer Tampering Pled Guilty Now Gets 17 Months US Wanted 20

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Maxwell book

SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 9 –   Two men charged with changing the Vehicle Identification Numbers on cars and tampering with their odometers were brought by US Marshals on Wednesday afternoon into the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court. Inner City Press was there.

Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang asked, if they were arrested early Tuesday morning, why that had not been presented that day.

The answer was that they arrived at the courthouse at 12:03, three minutes after the cut-off.

Judge Wang said this should not happen again.

The unsealed indictment also describes forged motor vehicle titles. It named the co-defendant, Giordany Castillo Abreu (with a retained counsel) and says that Dungey, with a Federal Defender, is also known as Reynaldo Medina or "El Don."

The US Attorney's Office agreed to release on $100,000 unsecured bond for each man, with two co-signers to be found. The assigned District Judge Richard M. Berman will arraign them on February 15 at 11 am.

Jump cut to April 30, 2024: the US Attorney's Office wrote in on Ray Dungey, in advance of his May 9 sentencing, asking for 20 months in prison and a $15,000 fine.

On May 9, Dungey got 17 months and a $2500 fine, with FCI Otisville recommended.

The case is US v. Dungey, et al., 22-cr-55 (Berman)
