SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 16 – John Grant pled
guilty on September 12, 2022
to having sold crack starting
in 2019, while he was on state
parole.
On March
16, 2023 U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Sidney H. Stein
convened a proceeding with
Grant. Inner City Press went
and covered it.
Judge Stein had
docketed that it was
"regarding defendant's request
to replace his counsel for a
fifth time in this matter. At
this time the Court is
disinclined to grant that
request."
On March
16, Grant said he would agree
to keep his current
(apparently and according to
the docket, fifth) attorney,
who then agree to file Grant's
sentencing submission by April
3, before the April 17
sentencing.
The US Attorney's
Office is asking for 60
months, noting DOJ's position
that "in crack cocaine cases,
the Court should vary downward
and consider the range that
would apply if the substance
had been powder cocaine."
The case is US v.
Grant, 21-cr-486 (Stein)
