SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
April 15 – Quamel Pierce
was arrested in July 2023 for
stealing mail from a USPS box
on 72nd Street and York Avenue
in Manhattan.
On January
4, 2024 he was scheduled to
plead guilty before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge James L. Cott
at 10 am. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag Court. But the
defendant was not there.
Later in the day, after Inner
City Press covered closing
arguments in a trial about
bribery in the now-closed MCC
jail, Pierce did arrive, and
pled guilty.
Judge Cott told
him to not be late for
sentencing before the assigned
District Judge, Richard M.
Berman. Pierce said he will
not be late.
On April 15,
Pierce's lawyer wrote it to
ask for time served and
probation.
The case is US v.
Pierce, 24-cr-3 (Berman /
Cott)
