SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 29 – Tyvann Barnett was up
on a violation of supervised
release after being sentenced
to 24 months on drug charges
in 2019.
On
June 25, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Paul A. Engelmayer held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
called in to cover it.
Judge
Engelmayer asked Barnett why
he hadn't known up for drug
treatment. The reply involved
the lack of a car / ride, and
the need to ask the
step-father for help.
But Judge
Engelmayer was not impressed
and said a violation hearing
should be held in two weeks.
Jump cut to
January 28, 2024 when
co-defendant Louis Brown was
coming up for sentencing on a
VOSR involving fentanyl which
he'd thought was heroin. He
pays $129 a month for his
subsidized studio apartment in
The Bronx, which he would lose
if he is sent to prison. He
asks for no prison, while
Probation wants six months.
The case is US v.
Barnett, 18-cr-390
(Engelmayer)
